Description: Neidpath Castle, 1.6 km. west of Peebles, Peeblesshire. Looking east along a postglacial gorge cut in Silurian greywacke sandstones of the Gala Group. The castle occupies the north bank on a bend in the River Tweed. The flat area on the right forms part of the local flood-plain of the river, here prevented from meandering further to the north (left) by the rock wall of the gorge. The cut-off slope of the gravel bank (fore to middle ground) is a typical feature of the inside curve of a meander.
