General view of the benches in Plashetts Quarry working the Highfield or Highgreen Whin Dyke (quartz-dolerite) which was intruded (294? 6my) en-echelon into the Carboniferous country rocks of the Upper Border Croup (Asbian). The whin is extracted for 'rip-rap' used to protect the face of the Kielder Dam from wave action.
