Massive, often false-bedded, predominantly coarse-grained sandstone of high Namurian age in the Derwent Valley adjacent to Shotley Grove Road. The sandstone forms part of what was termed the 'Second Grit' and lies immediately below the assumed position of the 'Quarterburn Marine Band'. Photo taken looking upstream from Co.
