Description: | Ael-y-Bryn, Capel Bangor. Looking N. Tight anticline, Capel Bangor. Tight, upright, gently plunging anticline with angular hinge zone (and ? axial plane shearing) on the left, and an oversteepened, slightly inverted east-facing limb in alternating regularly-bedded, uncleaved 5 cm. sandstones (distal turbidites) and fracture-cleaved shaley mudstones of the youngest Devil's Bridge Formation. The fold style contrasts with that near Cwmsymlog to the east where inter-limb angles of 60 degrees predominate. The cream-coloured opaque quartz blocks in the angular platey head (up to 1.30 m. seen) are characteristic of strike faults and differ from the translucent colourless quartz associated with the mineralized lodes. |
