Description: | Viewpoint, slopes of British camp, Herefordshire Beacon, Wynds Point. Looking NNE. View of Worcestershire Beacon. The highest, grass-covered ridge of the Malvern Hills consists of Precambrian rocks, separated from Silurian strata by a thrust whose line is closely followed by the upward limit of tree-growth. The scarps of the harder Silurian beds are capped by woods, the softer intervening shales forming cultivated ground. Thus from right to left in the photograph the rocks are Precambrian, May Hill Sandstone (wooded), Wenlock Shales (break in woods), Wenlock Limestone (wood in centre of picture), Lower Ludlow Shales (valley with open fields), Aymestry Limestone (wooded scarp). |
