| Description: | Heads of the Valleys Road, near Brynmawr. Basal Coal Measures - Heads of the Valleys Road. The topmost bed seen is a 5-6 m. quartzitic sandstone which underlies the Garw Coal. This is underlain by mudstone seatearth (forming recess) under which are thinly-bedded quartzitic sandstones. The dark bed at the base of the exposure is mudstone seatearth. A thin lingula bed (? M3 Marine Band) is present locally, resting on this mudstone seatearth. |
