Description: | Viewpoint, 3/4 m. E. of West-Ogwell, at junction of Denbury-Newton Road. Looking NNW. Scenery: eastern Dartmoor and adjacent country to the south-east. In the background the granite country of eastern Dartmoor is diversified by the outstanding masses of Kippon Tor (on left), Saddle Tor and Haytor (on right). In the middle distance the ridge of hills consists mainly of Middle Devonian limestone with intrusive masses of dolerite and also of pillow lava. These beds dip towards the observer and form the north-western flank of the great syncline extending from Buckfastleigh to Newton Abbot. |
