Stripped topsoil forms the low mound on the right. Subsoil (blue shale and sandstone) has been removed by scraper to the mound on the left (behind two trees). The cut - parallel to the strike of the seam - is 100 ft. wide. Black patches showing in the floor of the cut are exposures of the Whinmoor Seam not wholly cleared of overburden. |
