Brough Castle is built on a drumlin, encircled on the north by the alluvial plain of Swindale Beck and on the south by a deep, flat-floored glacial channel, seen in the foreground. The scars in the background are of Lower Carboniferous (mainly D1) Limestone, with the Pennine Fault Belt lying at the foot of the escarpment. |
