Description: High Brooms Brickyard near Southborough Station. Looking W. Lower Tunbridge Wells Sand overlying Wadhurst Clay. About 65 feet of blue and brown shales of the Wadhurst Clay are exposed on the working face. Above these are massive beds of sandrock (Lower Tunbridge Wells Sand). The sandrock is softer towards its base, and in this soft zone thin bands of lignite are locally developed. The actual junction is frequently marked by water seepage, thrown out by a green clay, which here forms the top of the Wadhurst Clay.
