Description: | Rixon's Farm Pit, Swanscombe. Boyn Hill or 100 foot terrace deposits of the Thames: the Theodoxus bed. Near the base of the lowest gravel there are local masses of shells and calcareous pebbly sand, a common gastropod being the species Theodoxus cantianus Kennard. This species is known at four localities only and all within a distance of three miles around Swanscombe, Kent. It is a warm climate mollusc. The only industry found with the shells is that of large flakes and cores showing the Clactonian technique of French authors. |
