Description: | Philpots Wood, West Hoathly. Rocks formed by a bed of hard sandstone in the Tunbridge Wells Sand. Several hard bands of sandstone in the generally softer material of the Tunbridge Wells Sand produce striking rocks where they have been exposed by erosion. In the present case a stream has cut through the band, and rocks crop out in the valley sides. See 'Geology of the Weald' (Mem.Geol.Surv.), 1875, pp.247, 248. |
