Description: Willowmoor Quarry, about 2 1/2 m. S. of Wellington. Looking NE. Willowmoor Quarry in Little Wenlock Basalt. The basalt is a flow of Lower Carboniferous (D2) age. The spheroidal masses are probably pillows, and indicate that the flow invaded the Carboniferous sea. The Ercall Hill, on skyline to left, is Uriconian faced with Cambrian Quartzite. The wooded ridges are Comley Sandstone, the lower ground Upper Cambrian shales and the hill (Maddock's Hill) on skyline to right is an intrusion of 'Camptonite' into these shales.
