Caption: Wansfell, near Ambleside.
Description: Wansfell, near Ambleside. Quartz veins in hydrothermally altered volcaniclastic siltstones. Hydrothermal processes have bleached and homogenized the volcaniclastic siltstones destroying all evidence of lamination and bedding. Silica-rich fluids were generated during the alteration to provide a network of quartz veinlets.
