Description: Harter Fell, W. of summit. Laminated volcaniclastic sandstone, Tongue House Member (Borrowdale Volcanic Group). Parallel laminated volcaniclastic sandstone and siltstone separates the nodular rhyolitic ignimbrite from the overlying foliated dacite. Beds very similar to these are also present throughout much of the Borrowdale Volcanic Group. Although parallel bedding is dominant, close inspection reveals much subtle variation in bed thickness with very low-angle cross-stratification.
