Description: | View of Sgurr Fhuaran, Sgurr na Carnach and Sgurr na Ciste Duibhe, part of the Five Sisters of Kintail from Sgurr Mhic Bharraich, Ross & Cromarty. Five Sisters of Kintail. The area lies with the Caledonian mountain belt and is formed of Moine rocks which were originally deposited as clastic sediments but subsequently metamorphosed to amphibolite facies grade. This converted the sandstones into quartz-feldspar-granulites (psammites) and the shales into quartz-mica-granulites (semipelites) and mica schists (pelites). The Moine rocks were deposited and metamorphosed before 1000 Ma and were subjected to renewed deformation and metamorphism during the Palaeozoic Caledonian Orogeny. |
