Description: | Salisbury Craigs panorama from St. Leonards, looking east, Edinburgh. The Arthur's Seat extinct volcano. The Salisbury Craigs are a Permo-Carboniferous teschenite sill. Arthur's Seat to the right is composed of the Lion's Head vent and Lion's Haunch Vent (Lower Carboniferous) filled with vent agglomerate and basaltic intrusions. The steep slope of scree and quarry debris obscures the Carboniferous Cementstone Group (Strathclyde Group) sedimentary rocks. The lower ground is formed of boulder clay (till). |
