Description: | East Kirkton Quarry, near Bathgate, West Lothian. The East Kirkton Limestone in the upper part of the West Lothian Oil Shale Formation is a laminated freshwater limestone. A unique and varied terrestrial assemblage of fossils has been collected from this site, including Westlothiana lizziae, a vertebrate fossil intermediate between amphibians and reptiles. The rocks are dipping at 20 to 45 degrees to the west-south-west and are between 9 and 19 m. thick. |
