Description: | Oblique aerial view of Loch Awe and the Cruachan Hydro-Electric Station and Pass of Brander Fault, Highland Region. The valley is an overdeepened U-shaped glacial valley eroded by the glaciers along a line of weakness, the fault line. The Pass of Brander Fault is a significant example of one of the north-west trending faults along with the Rothes Fault that have appreciable vertical displacements and that formed in the post-orogenic Caledonides. It is thought that some of these faults reflect fundamental deep level tectonostratigraphic lineaments. They contrast with the parallel series of north-east south-west trending post-orogenic brittle faults that have sinistral (sideways) movements e.g. the Glen Markie and Loch Tay Faults. |
