Description: Looking north-east from a point 0.8 km. from Second Coast, Gruinard Bay, Ross & Cromarty. Inselberg mountains of Torridonian sandstone rest on old Lewisian gneiss platform. Unlike the Torridon area where the Torridonian sandstone forms massive mountains separated by deep glacial narrow valleys, in this northern area the mountains have become isolated giving rise to characteristic 'inselberg' or 'island mountain' terrain. The sandstone mountains often form long narrow ridges separated by broad valleys of gneiss.
