Description: | Broad Haven south of Papigoe, 2.1 km. east-north-east of Wick, Caithness. 'Geo' formed along a ruck i.e. a line of folded and crushed strata in the Papigoe Formation, Lower Caithness Flagstone Group, Old Red Sandstone (Devonian). The rocks of the Papigoe Formation consist of pale greenish flagstones and mudstones, fine-grained sandstones and flags. They dip in a northerly direction between 20 and 30 degrees. A storm beach extends to a considerable distance above high tide. The inland end of the geo is filled with drift deposits. |
