Description: | Staxigoe, 2.4 km. north-east of Wick, Caithness. An old sea stack situated on a Flandrian (postglacial) raised beach. The rocks are of the Papigoe Formation, Lower Caithness Flagstone Group, Old Red Sandstone (Devonian). Sea stack, topped with boulder clay overlying green flags (about the level with the houses in the background), black slates, limestone showing small faults (the light band of rock towards the base of the stack). The topping of boulder clay on stack and main cliff shows that the production of the geo and isolation of stack is postglacial. |
