Description: | 2 1/2 m. south-south-east of Glenfeshie Lodge, 9 1/2 m. south-east of Kingussie, Inverness-shire. Hanging gorge, cut through Moine gneiss, descending from the plateau on the south side of Glen Feshie to the over-deepened main valley below. Note the development of gullies and scree slopes. There is a steep alluvial cone or debris cone at the mouth of the gorge in the foreground with basal erosion by the River Feshie. The cone is typical of several in Glen Feshie which have been much studied and radiocarbon dated to about 2000 BP. After c. 1700 years of stability there has been substantial activity in the last 300 years. |
