| Description: | Onich, Loch Linnhe, Inverness-shire. A view of Onich and the Flandrian raised beach. Ardgour Hills formed of Moine metasedimentary psammites in the distance. Note the steamer at the pier and the woman and child standing on the beach. Although called the '25 ft.' raised beach it is actually at a height of 35 ft. This raised beach is a well-marked feature on the shores of Loch Linnhe and Loch Leven. Relative sea level fell following the final disappearance of the glaciers to be followed by a marine transgression which culminated at about 6000 and 6800 BP. This transgression formed the Flandrian raised beaches. |
