Description: | North of Dunbar's Stack, 3 km. south of Wick, Caithness. Small reversed fault along axial plane of fold in flagstone cliff. Cliff of Hillhead Red Beds (reddened flaggy thinly-bedded siltstones within Berriedale Sandstone Formation, Caithness Flagstone Group, Middle Devonian). Bedding is subhorizontal, except for small S-shaped folds, with top-to-the left sense of movement. The rocks have fractured along the axial planes of these folds, producing small reverse faults, whose planes dip at c. 45 degrees to the north (right). Joints widely spaced, control cliff faces. |
