Description: | From top of cliff, Bay of Cullen, east of Macduff, Banffshire. Looking east. Cliffs and stacks of nearly vertical metamorphosed sandstones and siltstones, Macduff Slate Formation, Southern Highland Group. Erosion of these rocks is controlled by steeply dipping foliation, sub-parallel to bedding in metamorphosed siltstones, with some thick units of gritty psammite (metamorphosed sandstone), belonging to the Macduff Slate Formation (Southern Highland Group). The bedding strikes roughly north-south, at right angles to the coast. A low rock platform, probably corresponding to the postglacial raised beach (5-8 m. above O.D.) is visible in the middle distance. |
