Description: | Cliff above River Spey, opposite Rothes, Banffshire. Sand and gravel resting on red till. Lowest part of cliff made of deep-red, very compact till, containing large striated boulders. This is overlain by greyish-brown till with reddish patches and lenticular bands of gravel (dark area half-way up cliff to left of trees). The top of the cliff is made of regularly bedded sand and gravel (note bedding surfaces near top of cliff). The pale colour of much of the section is due to sand and gravel washed by rain over the underlying till. However, some bedding can be seen in the lower part of the cliff (far left), possibly indicating a lens of sand and gravel within the till. |
