Description: | River Brora, adjoining coal pit, 0.8 km. west of Brora, Sutherland. Siltstones of Fascally Siltstone Member (?Callovian) in river cliff. Type locality of the Fascally Siltstone Member (basal member of Clynekirkton Formation, top Callovian to basal Oxfordian). Bioturbated siltstones, well-bedded, form the top of the riverside cliffs on both sides of the Brora River (middle distance). The rocks forming the base of the cliffs are softer and darker and may be the uppermost part of the Brora Shale Formation. These strata lie approximately 75 m. above the Brora Coal. River alluvium in foreground, right. |
