Description: | Applethwaite Quarry, Troutbeck. Brathay Flag Formation, Applethwaite Quarry, Troutbeck. The finely-laminated muddy siltstones were worked for walling stone and roofing slates, but the slates were found to have poor resistance to weathering. The thin white bed near the base of the face in the centre of the photograph is a potassium-rich metabentonite. |
