Description: Groverake Mine, Rookhope, Weardale, Co. Durham. Looking N. Rake level, Groverake Mine. The portal of the new Rake which was driven alongside the old Rake level, the outline of which can be seen in the stone walling to the right of the modern portal. The stone above the old level records the driving of the level by the Beaumont Company last century. Rake level gives access to the higher levels of the main from which fluorspar, left in old lead workings is extracted.
