Description: Plawsworth Sandpit, Co. Durham. Collapse structure in 'upper gravels'. Coaly sands and gravels overlie a thin till which in turn erodes a sequence of fine sands and silts. The coaly sands and gravels have been folded before the development of collapse faults due to ice melting. The hammer is c. 30 cm. in length.
