Description: Slioch, from the south-east end of Loch Maree, Ross & Cromarty. A mountain of horizontal Torridon Sandstone enclosing a mountain of Lewisian gneiss. Lewisian gneiss forms the lower slopes facing the camera, as well as the slopes on the extreme right and extending to an altitude of over 600 m. above O.D. The main mass of the mountain, including the main summit (left) and Meall Each (hill nearest camera) are made of reddish pebbly sandstones of the Applecross Formation (Torridonian). The bedding in the sandstones is roughly horizontal, showing that the sandstone gradually filled up hollows in a landscape with almost as much relief as that of the present day.
