Description: | Garden of Old Grammar School, Church Street, Ashbourne. Close-up view of Ashbourne Gravel, Old Grammar School, Ashbourne. The section shows poorly sorted calcite-cemented gravel consisting of sub-rounded to rounded pebbles and cobbles up to 9 cm. long. A count of 179 pebbles in a 0.5 m. square showed 70% Carboniferous Limestones, 24% Carboniferous sandstones, 2% chert, 2% quartz and 2% other types (limestone pebbles are grey to white, sandstone pebbles yellow). The section is approximately 4 metres to the left of the figure in Photo No. L2526. |
