Description: | Sellifar, south of Mains of Ulbster, 1.5 km. north-east of Ulbster, Caithness. Stack composed of purple and green mudstone and calcareous pink sandstone bands. Upper part of stack consists of purple and green mudstone with calcareous pink sandstone bands, belonging to the Lower Devonian Braemore Mudstone Formation, dipping gently to the west (left). The base of the stack is formed of massive conglomerate (Langwell Conglomerate Member) belonging to the Ousdale Arkose Formation. The sea has exploited the subvertical joints to produce narrow geos, the roofs of which have collapsed to leave sea stacks. |
