Description: | Reay, Caithness. Dissected low plateau of Caithness Flagstones with projecting knobs of diorite glaciated and moraine strewn. Foreground consists of sand-dunes at edge of Sandside Bay. Low ground in middle distance underlain by Middle Devonian siltstones of Caithness Flagstone Group, which lie unconformably on Reay Diorite, which forms the hills in the near distance. Hills beyond made of Moine psammite and Strath Halladale Granite. Diorite outcrops ice-scoured, with hummocky glacial deposits in low ground between hills. |
