Description: | Shian Bay, 5 km. north of Loch Tarbert, west coast of Jura, Argyllshire. Looking north. General view of postglacial (8-14 m.) and late-glacial (23-36 m.) raised beaches. Outcrops of Jura Quartzite (Islay Subgroup, Argyll Group, Dalradian Supergroup) in foreground, on left, and in right distance. Regional dip is to south-east at 20-30 degrees. Low, Partly vegetated area in centre is postglacial raised beach, at 7-14 m. above O.D. In far to middle distance a grassy slope separates the postglacial raised beach from the late-glacial raised beach at c. 35 m. above O.D. Late-glacial raised beach also forms platforms in the centre distance. |
