Description: | Near Brein Phort, north of Loch Tarbert, west coast of Jura, Argyllshire. Ancient sea cave in quartzite cliff at edge of postglacial raised beach. Rock platform and cliffs both made of Jura Quartzite (Islay Subgroup, Argyll Group, Dalradian Supergroup, of Neoproterozoic age). Quartzite is well-bedded, and dips at about 10 degrees to left and away from camera. Shingle in front of cave forms part of postglacial raised beach. Caves eroded along bedding planes and vertical joints in quartzite while postglacial raised beach was active. |
