Description: | Wemyss, Fifeshire. Ancient sea caves in cliff of sandstone at edge of raised beach. Wall marks boundary between present-day beach and postglacial raised beach, which is now grassed over. Cliff is made of soft sandstone within the Middle Coal Measures. Sandstone is well-bedded, with widely spaced subvertical joints, which have been exploited by wave action to erode the caves. Behind cliff is platform forming part of late-glacial raised beach. |
