To left higher reaches of Beamish Burn basin. In the background the eastern outskirts of Stanley form the high ridge which consists largely of Westphalian B strata overlain by a thin veneer of drift. It is interesting to note that these strata include amongst the highest Westphalian measures in western Durham and locally above the Ryhope Five-Quarter. (See also Photo. Nos. L1786, L1792, L1794.) |
