Description: | Gorge of the River Derwent, near Muggleswick, Co. Durham. Incised meander on River Derwent, Co. Durham. Near the hamlet of Muggleswick, Co. Durham, the River Derwent has cut a series of deep incised meanders. This photo is taken from well below the lip of the Snape End spur looking towards Durham bank of the river. The bed of rock on the right is massive, coarse-grained sandstone of high Namurian age and virtually at the base of the 'First Grit'. (See also Photos. L1772 and L1773.) |
