Description: Mountsett, near Burnopfield. Mountsett Quarry near Burnopfield. Flaggy and thin-bedded, shaly, fine and medium-grained Westphalian B sandstone overlying the Durham Low Main Coal. Much of this area is now made ground and represents only the top part of a face of massive sandstone c. 12 m. (40 ft. high) (Durham Low Main Post). (See also Photo L1760.) Disturbance of sandstone is due to underlying old coal workings in the Durham Low Main/Brass Thill Coal.
