Description: Wear Valley, New Woodcroft Farm, between Frosterley and Stanhope, Co. Durham. Looking N. Main site works - Derwent-Wear-Tees tunnel. The main site works at New Woodcroft Farm in the Wear Valley for the construction of the Northumbrian Water Authority's Tyne-Tees aqueduct forming part of the Kielder Water Scheme. In the background is the south portal of the Derwent-Wear tunnel; behind this can be seen the rising ground on the north side of the Wear Valley - the top of the Great Limestone in Rogerley Quarry can just be seen behind the plantation, while the bold scarp is formed by the Crag Limestone and overlying Grit Sills here transgressive and worked at Roundhill Quarry (left dumps). In the middle distance are the alluvial flats and terrace deposits of the River Wear while in the foreground is the cutting (boulder clay and terrace deposits on Nattrass Gill Hazle) to the north portal of the Wear-Tees tunnel.
