View northwards from the alluvium of the Henmore Brook towards a scarp of soft sandstones of the Sherwood Sandstone Group of Triassic age behind St. Oswald's Church. Scattered outcrops of calcite-cemented limestone gravels (the Ashbourne Gravels) occur on the upper part of the scarp face, while the hill behind is capped by stony till containing large limestone blocks. |
