Description: Cow Green, Upper Teesdale, Durham; Westmorland in foreground. Cow Green Dam: the earth dam on the west (left) is built over a drift-infilled buried channel - the eastern (right) part is a concrete dam built on solid quartz-dolerite (Whin Sill). The top of the sill forms a bench above the dam dipping northwards (left) towards the reservoir; above the sill thermally metamorphosed sugary marble (Melmerby Scar Limestone) forms an escarpment.
