Description: | Groundwater occurs in aquifers, permeable rocks that are partly saturated as a result of infiltration of rain water. It is the filtering effect as the water passes through the fine cracks between grains in the rock that ensures high quality and suitability for use in brewing. Brewing is an important use of groundwater that takes advantage of the water's good quality and consistent chemical composition. Uncontaminated groundwater requires little treatment prior to use. Groundwater was responsible for the foundation of brewing in Alloa. |
