Description: | Queyhouse Talc Quarry, near east shore of Loch of Cliff, Unst, Shetland. A working face in a talc quarry. A shovel excavator loads a dumper truck on the quarry floor. The quarry is situated within the talc belt along the western margin of the Main Serpentinite Block. It is exposed beneath an overburden of 2-3 metres. The talc is broken up by rippers, followed by the selection of the higher quality material. Broken ore is transported by lorry to the quayside at Baltasound where it is stockpiled prior to shipping to Avonmouth. |
