Description: | The West of Scotland Water Authority, with the help of BGS, carried out a trial drilling operation for groundwater in the small Permian basin below the Devil's Beef Tub north of Moffat. The Permian basin comprises a mixture of breccia and aeolian sandstone units. Here, a core sample has been taken from 70 m. depth. The driller is seen unscrewing the core bit from the end of the core barrel prior to removing the core. Core samples are important for examining rock types and for measuring permeability. Three core runs were taken in this 112 m. deep borehole. |
