Caption: | Groundwater exploration at Glengrasco, Isle of Skye, Highland Region. |
Description: | Tertiary basalt lava flows are seen in the hillside above Glengrasco. Each step in the hillside represents a lava flow which emanated from central Skye. The area in the foreground is also underlain by basalt and was the subject of trial drilling for groundwater by the North of Scotland Water Authority. Three boreholes were drilled near Glengrasco and these were logged by the BGS borehole geophysics group. Small inflows of groundwater were shown to enter the boreholes at shallow depths. |
