Caption: Hardthorn Road site, Dumfries, Dumfries and Galloway Region. Discharge of groundwater during a pumping test on two new groundwater abstraction boreholes.
Description: West of Scotland Water Authority have developed the site to form part of the source of water for the public water supply in Dumfries. The photo shows the discharge water from pumping two boreholes together. A total flow of 92 litres per second is shown (almost 8,000 cubic metres/day). This is, in theory, sufficient water to supply 70% of the town's population.
