Caption: | Hardthorn Road site, Dumfries, Dumfries and Galloway Region. A good example of site preparation at the West of Scotland Water site at Hardthorn Road, Dumfries. This is a typical layout for the drilling of a groundwater abstraction borehole. |
Description: | The site is prepared initially with base rock to avoid deep tracks in the field. A fence prevents cattle from entering the site. Pumps remove water from the drilling process to a stream. The photo shows the relationship between the lower ground in the Dumfries basin underlain by Permian sandstone and breccia and the higher hills of Silurian rocks and which provided the source rock for the breccia. |
